The Internet, or the Net, as it is more often called in the English speaking countries, is considered to be one of the most important inventions of the twentieth century. Some people say that it is like having thousands of consultants who are ready to answer any of your questions. It is a cheap and reliable source of information — and not only that. You can also send documents all over the world, sample new music, visit museums all over the world, read books, exchange letters with your friends in another continent and receive their answer in a quarter of an hour, sell and buy things, play games, read the latest news and do a lot of other things. But one shouldn' t treat the Net as means of amusement when there is nothing else to do. In fact, the Internet has nowadays become a very important means of business correspondence, financial transaction marketing, and much more. The Net has capabilities for cheap, global and immediate communication. It may grow to dominate areas of publishing, news and education, banking and customer support. Newspapers and magazines play a great and very important role in the life of a modern man. Reading a newspaper you can get information about the events that have taken or are going to have place in this country and abroad. You can also read articles about historical events and public figures of the past. The pages of newspapers carry articles on our economy, industry, agriculture and social life. Practicaly all newspapers also give radio and TV programmes, weather forecasts. There is the variety of newspapers circulating throughout the countr ies. One can find newspapers of all kinds: national and local, official and private, quality and popular, newspapers issued for children, teenagers, for all kind of fans: sport- fans, car- fans, music fans, etc. The freedom of press has become actual and real today. Most of the newspapers can boast their independence, their individual styles, their peculiarities. There is no need to read all of the articles. People can look through the newspapers and read the columns they are interested in. I think it is impossible to imagine our life without radio and television. Radio and television are widely used in today’s world. It is one of the quickest means of spreading news and the information. Radio plays an important role in reflecting the life of society and building opinions. It performs the service of information well enough but on television everything is much more real. People with a radio or a television set can sit at home and learn about people, animals, and things in faraway lands. Millions of listeners and viewers around the world can listen to or watch sports events and other events of worldwide interest. TV and radio bring a steady stream of programmes that are designed to give information and to entertain. Radio and television keep us informed about current events, extend the education, provide the cultural recreation, allow us to follow the latest developments in science and politics and offer an endless number of programmers which are both instructive and entertaining. So they give us a lot of useful information and are exciting.
